>                Earthbound Studio is a dance-based production company in NYC that aims to bring to light hidden truths in the dance industry, using their platform to inform the dance community about compensation, unionization, proper creditation, and protection rights. Their primary goal is to inform and provide tools that lift everyone in the industry upward, creating video content featuring interviews, case studies, and more.

When strategizing the branding, the creative wrapper needed to have an information-first approach, without letting the design become a distraction from their content. The identity needed to be concise, recognizable, and easy to digest. The branding began with their logo inlucind a wordmark, icon, and badge to be used across different materials.

Wordmark ⸻ Inspired by the curvature of the Earth, this logo serves as a visual metaphor to both our planet and the studio’s wholistic approach to shedding light on the dance industry. The arc encompasses dance culture, acting as a symbol of unity and communion.

Icon ⸻ Used as a primary logo, this icon stands on its own as an instantly recognizable face of the studio. With a twist on the global grid - the icon symbolizes community, a natural-born approach, and the “Earth”bound name.

Badge ⸻ The Earthbound badge combines the icon with a flat nameplate, stepping in as a succinct graphic that contains everything Earthbound stands for.

This logo is used for video end cards, outward facing documents, and more official material when a single brand image is required.

Color Treatment ⸻ Utilizing a monochromatic approach, I built a palette to reflect the  consistency and confidence that the studio stands for. Using their existing imagery as refernce, this green-scale compliments their visuals without getting lost or distracting from their primary goal - to inform.

Typography ⸻ Earthbound’s mission is rooted in uncovering hidden truths in the dance industry, information that becomes a critical tool for performers and choreographers alike to build a stable career. This led to the structured use of a mono typeface, acting as a professional and clear medium without distracting from the words it spells out. This approach provides an informational aesthetic while maintaining clear legibility, calling back to archival redacted documents with hidden information.

Geometric Language ⸻ In order to create a consistent graphic language with a single tool, I created a unique rounded corner called “The Bind”. A visual device that communicates Earthbound’s binding nature. Acting as a keystone, this conveys the studio’s ability to bring ideas + people + community together through a shared vision.

Built for modularity, the “bind” can be stretched, combined, stacked, or framed to use across any/all content. Anytime the studio creates a graphic, the shared geometry through a single corner ensures a consistent brand voice no matter the material or medium.

⸻ From grids, logo placement, typography, geometry, and other graphic factors, Earthbound’s digital presence prioritizes consistency to effectively communicate information and content.

Istagram posts follow 1 of 2 format options. The first option is for a text based information without informational graphics. This includes Headline, Subhead, and Body type formatting and sequencing.

The second option is built for statistical and graphic information, where a wide contrast of sizing makes content more digestible. This includes formatting for Headlines, Body copy, and Small Body copy for labels, details, etc.
